Feeling Italian

Maybe you’ve never taken a lesson. Maybe you’ve been “learning” Italian for years and still can’t build a sentence. Maybe you understand more than you can say and freeze the moment it’s your turn to talk.

Italian fluency is possible for you.

Whatever your starting point, you’ve probably thought some version of this to yourself:

“I want to speak with my family instead of waiting for someone to translate.”

“I want to stop feeling like a tourist in a place that feels like home.”

“I want to finally say, ‘I speak Italian.’”

From smiling politely outside the conversation, to becoming part of it.

“...helped me go from ZERO knowledge to speaking Italian and understanding greatly!”

—Norberto, Dentist, Florida

“...after 6 months I can confidently hold conversations in Italian.”

—Celia, Pharmacist, London

“My Italian has significantly improved since starting lessons with Lingua Lunga Italian.”

—Lilla May, University Student, London

How I teach Italian online: real conversation, short stories, and personal connection instead of memorization.

The Lingua Lunga
“Feeling Italian” Method

Most methods hand you vocabulary lists and grammar drills, and leave it up to you to turn that into a real conversation. Mine works the other way around, so what you learn becomes something you can say.

A Teacher Who Knows You

You have one real, consistent teacher who you connect with, converse with, and who can adjust to your learning level and interests.

Immersion Through Short Stories

Italian taught through short stories and everyday moments, the same approach behind my own short story Mistero a Carnevale.

Ciao! I’m Alice Bolzonella.

Founder of Lingua Lunga | Italian Teacher for 10+ Years | Polyglot | Linguistic Mediator | Native Italian

Originally from Venice, one of my first memories with language is my grandfather teaching me numbers in English. It was a small moment, but it planted something: language becomes real when it’s tied to a person you love, not a list you memorize.

Years later, I taught English and French at a school in Mexico, and that’s where I saw it firsthand: language clicks when you experience it, not just study it. I used a present, practice, produce method, introducing the language, practicing it together, then having students produce it themselves, once bringing real fruits and vegetables into the classroom so students could build an actual sentence about buying groceries. Connecting language to something real, right in front of them, is when I saw it work.

That belief is what Lingua Lunga Italian is built on, and it’s in the name. “Lingua lunga” is an Italian idiom for a chatterbox, someone talkative and expressive. That’s what I want for every student: not just to know Italian, but to actually talk in it.

I hold a Bachelor’s with honors in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation, a Master’s with honors in Languages for International Communication, and a certification with first-class honors in Didactics of the Italian Language to Foreigners. I’m fluent in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese in addition to my native Italian, and I’ve taught students from more than 15 countries for nearly a decade. I founded Lingua Lunga Italian in 2022, built around what I learned from my own students, not a textbook.

The degrees and certifications matter, but what I actually bring to every lesson is still what I learned in that classroom in Mexico: language works when you feel and experience it, not just memorize it.

My Short Story

Mistero a Carnevale

After years of teaching, I noticed the same pattern over and over: listening and speaking were always the hardest part for my students, not grammar or vocabulary. So I started using short stories in my lessons to give them a real, low-pressure way to practice both. Eventually I decided to write my own, and that’s how Mistero a Carnevale came about: a mystery set in Venice during Carnival, with audio I recorded myself for every chapter, and grammar and cultural notes woven right into the story.

My Podcast

Lingua Lunga Italian Podcast

I love hearing people’s life stories, so I turned that into a podcast. Each episode, I interview someone from around the world about their own journey, all in Italian, on topics like what it’s like to have an Italian husband, or why someone moved to London just to study Italian. Each episode features its own topic and grammar level, so there’s something for wherever you are in your Italian. Siete pronti a parlare italiano? Via! Are you ready to speak Italian? Let’s go!
